Democracy Federal Credit Union Spreads Holiday Cheer Through Senior Sing-Along Events

Washington, D.C. / Alexandria, VA / Temple Hills, MD — Democracy Federal Credit Union (DFCU) brought holiday joy to seniors across the region through two special sing-along events held last week at Henson Creek Senior Living in Temple Hills, Maryland, and Elance Senior Living in Alexandria, Virginia.

Staff members from multiple departments volunteered their time to sing classic holiday songs, engage with residents, and lift spirits during the festive season. The visits are part of Democracy FCU’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and its belief in being more than just a financial institution.

“These moments remind us that community impact isn’t always about numbers—it’s about presence,” said Andrena Smith, Interim CEO at Democracy Federal Credit Union. “Seeing residents light up, sing along, and share laughter with our team reinforces why we do this work.”

The annual tradition has become highly anticipated by residents, with staff at Henson Creek sharing that several seniors were already looking forward to the visit and have even made special requests for next year. At Elance Senior Living, the energy was high, with music, laughter, and even a little air-guitar performance adding to the joy of the afternoon.

Democracy Federal Credit Union remains committed to serving communities with compassion, connection, and purpose—especially during the holiday season. Through volunteerism and outreach, DFCU continues to strengthen relationships and create meaningful experiences beyond banking.
