Democracy Federal Credit Union Delivers Over 2,000 Clothing Items to Local Non-Profit
Washington, DC — Democracy Federal Credit Union (DFCU) recently visited Martha’s Table to deliver the results of its annual internal clothing drive, donating more than 2,000 clothing items to support families across the District.
The clothing drive, which included a friendly competition among DFCU branches and departments, showcased the credit union's staff's collective generosity, teamwork, and community spirit. The significant volume of donations will help restock Martha’s Closet, a branch of Martha’s Table that provides individuals and families with access to free, high-quality clothing in a dignified retail setting.
During the visit, Democracy Federal Credit Union staff toured Martha’s Closet and met with Laura Grossman, the boutique's director. The team also toured the broader Martha’s Table facility, gaining firsthand insight into the organization’s holistic approach to community support, including its fresh food markets, educational programming, and family-focused services.
“This year marks 90 years in business,” said Andrena L. Smith, interim CEO of Democracy Federal Credit Union. “Over the years, I’m rarely surprised by our culture of giving because it’s in our DNA. What does surprise me is how we continue to show up bigger and better than ever before, reaching even more families.”
The Martha’s Table team expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that clothing inventory had been running low and that the contributions would immediately benefit families visiting the boutique.
Democracy Federal Credit Union remains committed to community engagement. It takes pride in partnering with organizations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families throughout the footprint. Banking is what we do at Democracy Federal Credit Union. But helping people is how we do it; it goes beyond the institutional walls.
