
Democracy Federal Credit Union Hosts Multi-Location MLK Day of Service Across the DMV
Team Members Honor Dr. King’s Legacy Through Hands-On Community Impact
ALEXANDRIA, VA — January 19, 2026 — Democracy Federal Credit Union proudly honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with its first coordinated, multi-location Day of Service across the DMV region. Embracing the spirit of “A Day On, Not a Day O ,” team members dedicated the holiday to meaningful, measurable service benefiting local families and community partners across Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Prince George’s County.
Volunteers supported several impactful initiatives, including hands-on service at Bridges to Independence in Arlington, where team members assisted with pantry organization, restocking essential household items, and preparing resources for families transitioning out of homelessness. The e ort directly supported individuals and families working toward long-term housing stability and financial independence.
In Washington, D.C., sta partnered with Martha's Table to host a small, low-cost grocery market for neighbors attending the nearby Market Parade. Team members helped ensure families had access to fresh, a ordable food options while fostering a welcoming and dignified shopping experience for community members.
Additionally, employees served at Prince George's County Samaritan - Bladensburg Community Center, where they packed donations for individuals residing in local shelters and sorted food items destined for area food banks. This effort supported food security initiatives and extended essential supplies to vulnerable populations throughout Prince George’s County.
The MLK Day initiative was designed to reflect Democracy Federal Credit Union’s commitment to economic empowerment, service, and equitable access to opportunity — values that align closely with Dr. King’s vision of justice in action.
