Supporting Families Through Our Annual Clothing Drive

As part of our annual community giving efforts, Democracy Federal Credit Union donated over 1,000 clothing items to Martha’s Table, helping support individuals and families across Washington, D.C.The clothing drive included a friendly internal competition among DFCU branches and departments, highlighting the generosity and teamwork of our staff. Donations helped restock Martha’s Closet, a community boutique that provides free, high-quality clothing in a dignified retail environment. During the visit, our team toured the facility and learned more about Martha’s Table’s holistic approach to community support, including access to fresh food, education, and family-focused services. The organization shared that the donation arrived at a critical time and would immediately benefit families in need.

Sharing Our Mission on Boss Talk with Urban One

Democracy Federal Credit Union recently joined Urban One for a special edition of Boss Talk, featuring an interview with Interim CEO Andrena Smith. During the conversation, Andrena discussed DFCU’s mission, our role in serving underserved communities, and the philosophy that guides everything we do, People Helping People. The discussion highlighted how credit unions can be powerful drivers of financial empowerment and positive community change. Spreading Holiday Cheer with Senior Communities

Democracy Federal Credit Union recently brought holiday joy to local senior communities through special sing-along events at Henson Creek Senior Living and Elancé Senior Living. DFCU team members volunteered their time to sing classic holiday songs, connect with residents, and create meaningful moments of joy and companionship. These visits are part of our ongoing commitment to serving our communities beyond banking by showing up, being present, and building genuine relationships. Residents and staff warmly welcomed the events, with many seniors already sharing their excitement for future visits. The energy, laughter, and shared music made these gatherings a memorable part of the holiday season for everyone involved.

Who is ALIVE? ALIVE is a community organization that addresses food insecurity in Alexandria and the surrounding areas. During this government shutdown, distribution hubs like ALIVE are overwhelmed with families in need of support. Democracy FCU employees volunteered at the ALIVE!

Cogir Senior Living

DFCU Clothing Drive

For Christmas this year, we want to give the gift of clothing. A necessary resource for all, but with limited access for many. We will partner with local shelters to offer this gift from the DFCU Family. If you are in a position to donate, we are encouraging staff, members, partners, and friends to donate new or gently used clothing items.

HD Woodson Speed Networking Event

Today, Democracy Federal Credit Union had the privilege of participating in the Speed Networking Event at H.D. Last week, DFCU participated in the Benefits Fair at Gallaudet University.
